The Center for Archaeological Studies (CAS) is a research center within the Department of Anthropology at Texas State University. One of CAS’s primary goals is to preserve and make accessible the archaeological collections that inform our knowledge of Texas history and ancient Indigenous lifeways. CAS's Archaeological Repository curates archaeological collections from state, federal and private lands, and makes them accessible to archaeologists, researchers, descendant communities, educators, students and the public. Our facility is certified by the Texas Historical Commission as a repository for archaeological records and artifact collections held-in-trust for the State of Texas. We also meet the Federal curation standards set by 36 CFR 79. Come see where archaeologists and agencies conducting archaeological investigations all over Texas submit collections for final curation. This tour will provide a behind the scenes look at CAS’s storage facility and laboratory spaces, as well as some artifacts from local archaeological sites on display.
Transdev, the university’s Bobcat Shuttle transit provider, will provide a bus service from the San Marcos Convention Center. Details will be provided in the confirmation email.
